Today, manufacturing companies are working on ways to improve sustainability.  According to Autodesk Manufacturing White Paper, "sustainability is usually defined as 'meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.'"  (Please visit: images.autodesk.com for the full article.)

Improving sustainability is not only beneficial for future generations, but it will also help current companies save money and improve our carbon footprint on our environment as well.

Industrial Nanotech and its distributors are helping manufacturers decrease energy costs and create more efficient operating systems with Nansulate® coatings!

Omnigenus Energy, Industrial Nanotech's Mexico distributor, assisted a large manufacturing client with an issue they were having with heat transferring through a large sheet metal wall that divides the main mezzanine from an area that holds six industrial ovens.  The heat transfer was causing uncomfortable working conditions.

Nansulate® Translucent PT was applied at a 3-coat coverage to decrease the heat transfer.  Even before the coating was fully cured, measurements showed a reduction of wall surface temperature from 39.9C (103.8F) to 24.8C (76.6F)!  Further reduction is expected after the coating is completed cured.

Chemical Product Finder discusses how Nanocoatings can help companies recapture wasted energy loss in their article "Creating Sustainable and Efficient Process Plants with Nanotechnology":

Reducing costs and environmental impact with energy saving and sustainability strategies is a challenge that many plant and facility managers face on a daily basis...

Insulating equipment from heat loss or gain can significantly decrease energy costs, but many manufacturers have had to concede energy loss in certain process related equipment due to the inability to insulate with traditional products. Fibrous insulations like rock wool or fiberglass, even with cladding, tend to degrade quickly in high humidity and outdoor environments, decreasing their effectiveness while causing corrosion at the interface between the insulation and equipment surface. For this reason, reducing energy costs significantly and affordably in heat process industries has been challenging, especially in the chemical process industry, as well as many others. Many times equipment is left uninsulated due to the limitations of the past.

Advanced and targeted solutions created by the science of nanotechnology in the form of nanocoatings offer a way to insulate, prevent corrosion and Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI), and do so with a short-term payback and long-term performance. Nanotechnology is simply the manipulation of materials at a smaller scale than was previously possible... Nanocoatings that insulate, prevent corrosion and repel moisture offer a way to insulate equipment in all environments, even those, which can cause traditional materials to degrade. One such patented nanotechnology based coating line, called Nansulate®, by Industrial Nanotech, Inc. has been providing significant energy savings for manufacturers since 2004, while also protecting equipment from corrosion, increasing asset life. This technology transforms insulation into a simple spray-on thin film application and can be installed with minimal disruption of production activities. Its long-term durability and consistency of insulating ability of 5-10 years reduce replacement costs in addition to lowering energy consumption and related carbon emissions.

...As the science of nanotechnology progresses, it will continue to change the way we see traditional methods of insulation, asset protection, and other process activities. And as more companies explore the uses of nanotechnology for energy savings, there will be a larger choice of new technology products commercialized that provide other sustainable benefits for manufacturers looking to reduce costs. The key is to be open to innovations, seek them out regularly, review them thoroughly, and implement a plan to evaluate them in your facility to your organization's benefit.

On January 21 and 22, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) held a conference in New Delhi discussing "Industrial Waste Heat Recovery".

According to FICCI, "studies have shown that as much as 20 to 50% of industrial energy consumption is ultimately discharged as waste heat.  Waste heat losses arise both from equipment inefficiencies and from thermodynamic limitations on equipment and processes."

The conference was held to learn about new technologies and best practices for effective waste heat recovery, identify potential energy loss areas, and more.

The meet concluded with a presentation on Nansulate® by Industrial Nanotech's distributor in India, Deepak Sharma from Dantech Engineers.  Attendees were completely intrigued by the product, asking numerous questions at the end.  Impressed with Nansulate®, FICCI invited Mr. Sharma to participate in the Mumbai conference, held January 29th and 30th

Maintenance Tips to Prepare for Fall

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
iem-blog1.jpg

With summer nearing an end, mild temperatures provide the perfect window to prepare for the cold, sleet, and snow of late fall & winter.

Protect exterior surfaces now and reduce maintenance costs later by preventing rust, moisture infiltration, cracking due to ice expansion, and other cold weather related issues.

Read below for more details on how Nansulate® insulation and protective coatings can reduce your energy and maintenance costs.

buildingenvelope.jpgCheck Building Envelope
Seal gaps in your building's thermal envelope to reduce energy costs.

Early Autumn is a great time to review your building's thermal envelope for weak areas where you need more insulation to reduce heating and cooling costs. Look for areas such as metal buildings or warehouses with metal roofs, single-pane windows or skylights, and solid walls with no cavity for insulation. Identify areas that allowed the most heat into the building in the summer, as these same areas will allow heat loss from the building in the winter.

Nansulate® Energy Protect is an easy paint-on liquid insulation for problem areas over non-metal walls, ceilings, windows or skylights to reduce heat transfer by approximately 34.8%, per testing over 8cm cement wall sections, while also providing surface protection qualities.

Use Nansulate® Translucent PT over metal building surfaces to insulate and prevent corrosion.

Review customer case studies

Nansulate® Energy Protect

Nansulate® Translucent PT

rustoutdoor.jpgTreat for Rust Prevention
Protect surfaces from rust damage with clear spray on anti-corrosion coating.

Coat exterior pipes, duct work, metal railings, furniture or other metal structures to prevent rusting and damage due to rain or snow.

If you wait too long, you'll miss the opportunity for outdoor painting while overnight temperatures are staying above freezing.

2-coats is all that needed for corrosion prevention only, and if you want extra insulation benefit, you can use more (typically 3-8).

Direct to metal coatings that can be spray, brush, or roller applied:

Surfaces up to 256F/125C - Nansulate® Translucent PT

Surfaces up to 400F/204C - Nansulate® High Heat
Download Data Sheet

We provide on call phone and email technical support for all applications!

icedamage.jpgProtect from Ice Damage
Coat outdoor surfaces to prevent moisture infiltration, and related ice damage.

Nansulate® coatings incorporate a nanomaterial which is extremely hydrophobic ("water hating"), which allows it to protect surfaces not only from moisture infiltration, but also the accompanying damage that happens when water seeps into a concrete or other structure, and then freezes in the winter.

Nansulate® Energy Protect is used to protect concrete tanks, walls, and other structures from cracking due to moisture penetration and expansion in freezing temperatures.

Protect surfaces with a 2-coat coverage before the weather starts turning cold to reduce your repair costs next spring.

2012-aug_entry.jpg

Finding a long-term solution for insulation of pipes and tanks can be a challenge. Especially with larger outdoor tanks and steam pipes in humid environments.

Nansulate®  coatings were originally developed to address the insulation and corrosion needs of pipes, tanks, and equipment. To provide not only a better weather resistant solution, but also a more cost effective one.

Read below for more details on how liquid insulation can reduce your energy and maintenance costs.

iem_aug1.jpgWeather Resistant
Insulation that resists rain and prevents corrosion means lower maintenance costs.

Nansulate® coatings wrap any tank, pipe, or other structure in a thermal barrier that prevents corrosion and provides resistance to UV and weathering.

No more expensive exterior cladding to install over traditional fibrous insulation, no more wet or dirty insulation hanging from pipes in your facility.

Nansulate® easily sprays, rolls, or brushes on, and offers an effective barrier to heat loss or gain. It has performed effectively in the harsh deserts of the Middle East, the salty marine environment of the Atlantic coastline, the frigid conditions of Alaska, and all places in between.

Download Product Data Sheets:

Nansulate® PT - up to 256F

Nansulate® High Heat - up to 400F

iem_aug2.jpgEasy Application
Easy to apply insulation coatings - Just Spray, Brush, or Roll On.

Many customers install Nansulate® with their own painting contractor or maintenance crew, which means less cost and more flexibility for scheduling.

The coatings can be applied while hot equipment is in operation (check page 10 of our Application Handbook), and the number of coats/layers can either be done at once, or spread out over several days or weeks to fit your crew availability.

The coatings have excellent adhesion, meaning they stay put and keep working for years.

Recommended Equipment Checklist

We provide on call phone and email technical support for all applications!

iem_aug3.jpgLower Hot Surfaces
Keep hot pipes and tanks safe for workers by lowering surface temperatures.

Hot surfaces can cause worker safety issues due to burn injuries. Nansulate® coatings not only insulate, they also lower surface temperatures and reduce the heat expelled from equipment into the working environment.

Use our Temperature Gradient Chart which shades the "safe touch" temperature range to see how many coats you should use for your application.
